Here is a piece I have in the SPLATTER show at Antebellum Gallery; the show closes November 30th with a public funeral for Oscar Wilde (details on the Antebellum site).
Renfield is a transgender artist working in Los Angeles. His primary influences are the images of silent cinema and the illustrators of the golden age, with an interest that is as much fetishistic as it is aesthetic. Indelibly affected by these images as a child, they now find expression as naked, unambiguous manifestations of desire…a world of the genteel and the perverse.
The gentlemen in his artwork make themselves known, and assert their own power. At some point early in the process, the artist can only follow helplessly as these men will themselves to life.
